LAUDERDALE COUNTY, Ala. (WBMA) – Surveillance video released Tuesday show the moment a wanted Alabama jail escapee and correctional officer left the jail Friday.
In the video, 56-year-old Deputy Vicky White can be seen parking a patrol vehicle near an exit, entering the jail, then walking out seconds later with 38-year-old Casey Cole White. The two are not related.
“Investigators received information from inmates at the Lauderdale County Detention Center over the weekend that there was a special relationship between Director White and inmate Casey White. That relationship has now been confirmed through our investigation by independent sources and means,” the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement to news outlets. The office did not elaborate on the nature of the relationship.
Vicky White, who serves as assistant director of corrections, was transporting Casey White to the Lauderdale County courthouse for what she said told co-workers was a mental health evaluation.
Vicky also told co-workers she had a doctor's appointment scheduled, which was confirmed but the office said the deputy never showed. Officials said no one realized the two were missing until about six hours after they left the jail. Deputies tried to contact Vicky but her phone repeatedly went to voicemail.
She has a warrant out for her arrest and has been charged with permitting or facilitating an escape of an inmate in the first degree.
The U.S. Marshals Service said the pair may be traveling in a 2007 orange or copper colored Ford Edge. Officials added it may have no license plate. The pair should be considered dangerous and may be armed with an AR-15 rifle, handguns and a shotgun.
A reward up to $10,000 is in place for Casey and a $5,000 reward is offered for Vicky.
